Thursday Thirteen- Edition "Q"

1. Quileute - Jacob's Tribe from the Twilight Saga. lol!

2. Questions - Izabel is full of them!

3. Quadrant - Alpha and Gamma, still trying to get through DS9.

4. Qualify - We hope Izabel will qualify for our first choice Pre-School next month.

5. Quarts - We go through about 8 quarts of milk per day. Actually, that is just the girls. Greg and I do not drink milk.

6. Queen - I'm treated like a queen. There's nothing my husband wouldn't do for me or our children. Of course, even before we had children and even before we were married, I was always the center of his world. I'm glad I've held his attention for so long.

7. Quench - Dr. Pepper does the trick!

8. Quiet - The girls are in bed and it's so nice and quiet. Nothing but this can be heard.

9. Quiddage - Make believe or not, this was a fun part of the movies and books.

10. Quintessential - The fifth and highest element in ancient and medieval philosophy that permeates all nature and is the substance composing the celestial bodies. Pretty cool huh?

11. Quark - Another humorous character from DS9. Nothing like a Ferengi to keep the show lively.

12. Quotes - "I am purely full of joy, because I am missing nothing.
No one has more than I do now." -E.C

"Now you know. No one’s ever loved anyone as much as I love you." -B.S

13. Quest - TT is only getting more difficult, but if I can do "Q" surely I can do all the rest.

I've been kind of a recluse the past couple of weeks. I've mostly been lacking in the blogging world. I guess I was taking an unexpected break from the blogosphere for awhile. With that being said, my Nikon has been taking the same break as well. lol!

Our new sewer pipes were laid in on Saturday by my most delicious husband, so that was a huge thing to check off the list. Hubby did so much digging and yucky stuff but everything worked out great and all is well with the water running where it should.

After much of the day was spent filling that humongous hole, Hubby set the concrete and put up our new flag pole and flag. It looks wonderful and is almost the first thing you see when coming up our street. We made a quick trip to Home Depot and bought a bunch of flowers to plant around it. It looks great with the stone circle around it and two shining beacons to keep the flag in sight at all times.

Our New Flag Pole

Much of the day was spent outside, playing and cleaning. It was nice to be able to do some yard work before the temps reach an unbearable degree of heat.

I've re-read the entire series of Twilight, finishing up the last one last night. I'm hesitant to remove myself from such a wonderful series but I'll pick something else for a bit. I am anxious to see some new trailers for New Moon but it appears that nothing concrete is available from Summit until sometime in May. I feel like I need to join a group, "Twilighter's Anonymous"

The girls have been doing well and appear to be over their colds. Emmy finished the last of her antibiotics on Sunday. Today, Emily slept until almost 11am. That put her at almost 15 hours of sleep. I was a little concerned but I watched her breathing to keep my mind at ease. She woke up in a great mood so we went to the store for milk. Almost two hours had passed since the time she woke up. She threw up on me and the proceeded to go take a nap. She's been sleeping for almost 2 hours now.

Who knows what we've run in to now. I've been a little paranoid about the whole Swine Flu outbreak but we've been at home most of the time. Maybe she's just catching another cold of some type.

Izabel's doing well and very antsy to be outside all day. She's become terrified of bugs for some reason and runs around screaming at the slightest ant she finds. Hopefully that will phase out soon. I am no friend to spiders or creepy crawly centipedes, but there's no escaping the ants.

Izabel also has her first appointment with a preschool in a couple of weeks. We are going to fill out some paperwork to be put on the waiting list. There are only 22 spots open this year so while I am not holding my breath that she will be accepted, it still gives us a good head start.

So that about sums up my absence. Of course you can add in all the little mundane things that always seem to need attention.
These photos of the girls are from a park visit last week. It was so incredibly hot and sticky. Hope everyone is having a great week, Enjoy!

Closing Out Clearwater

It's been almost 3 months since we went to Florida. It's taken me that long to recover the photos from the crash.

I think I've found most of the photos I am going to, so all of them have been uploaded to Flickr in an attempt to keep them "safe".

These two photos were a couple of my favorites. Our babies feet touching the sand and hearing the ocean for the first time. It was one of the most fantastic weeks we have ever experienced.

Arizona Plant Life

Combing through the photos of our vacation to the Southwest, I found that I had quite of few plant life shots. As much as I love the grass and falling leaves here in the Midwest, some of the Cactus are beautiful. Each one just as different as the next.

But before you take a gander, take a look at this little guy "humming" away in Nanny's front yard. I waited for a few days to try and capture him. This was the closest me and my 55 mm could get. You can enlarge for a better view.

Arizona Plant Life/Humming Bird

Enjoy the "berry sharp" plants of Arizona.

And as Chris has pointed out so nicely, finding beauty in things around you is quite fun. Beauty presents itself in some very strange forms, textures and colors.

Pre-School Screening

Yesterday, Izabel had Pre-School Screening. Imagining our 3 year, 2 month old attending school in the Fall is exciting but also a reminder that time passes all too quickly. Warning, bragging is about to occur. lol!

We arrived at the school just minutes before it was her turn to go in. Emmy and I sat out in the hall waiting for her and I knew that she was going to pass with flying colors. We had been warned that Izabel would most likely do too well to be accepted into the district.

And Izabel proved just that.

Izabel's a very smart cookie, although she doesn't let on sometimes. Her PATS teacher was one of the four teachers during the screening which made me feel good. Izabel doesn't always perform and I was at ease knowing that her PATS teacher really knew what Izabel was capable of.

I don't have the scores in front of me, but some of the things I remember from the meeting are as follows.

- Izabel identified 19 colors in 30 seconds. There was another color test as well but she failed to identify Grey.
- She sang her ABC's, identified her shapes correctly, stacked blocks as asked, and identified objects from flashcards.
- She was also able to identify all the her body parts expect her Heel and Forehead.
- She was not able to answer hypothetical questions. Such as, if you walk into a dark room, what do you do? (Turn on the light.) We will be working on this with her now though.
- She was able to write/draw a lot of the things they asked but she's still unable to write her name.

There were several other items in the screening but I cannot remember them. Every degree of development is screened, including their hearing.

So now the search begins to get Izabel into a private pre-school. There are a few here in our town but Greg and I have been very specific to each other about what we are looking for. Of course, tuition cost will be a factor as well. I hope to be on a couple of waiting lists before the end of May and with any luck, Izabel will have her first day of school in August.

Inspiration

Cactus

I haven't forgotton about finishing up our vacation posts. I hope to be getting back to them soon, begining with a series of plant life in the desert. This beauty has so many vibrant colors and pleasing lines. It's amazing how many different cactus there are. Everything is so semetrical and organized.

This photo is going to help me execute the remainder of the week. I need to stay Focused and become Organized! Ha!

Happy Thursday Thirteen and don't forget to visit a few other participants! Have Fun!

We called 9-1-1 and all I got was this lousy picture.

Seriously, who in their right mind calls 911 in an emergency and then grabs the digital?

*sigh*....Me.

Let it be noted, I DID grab my children first! Duh!

It's been a hectic day. Daddy's still sick after a rough night with a fever and Emily's even worse today with the snotty nose and congestion. I decided to take the girls outside today and let some fresh air circulate through them. They colored and played in their cars, dug in the sand box and dilly dallied around with the pets.

I also got around to some lawn work and cutting the grass today. I needed the exercise and the lawn needed cutting. I finished and began rounding up the girls and cleaning up.

I told Hubby, "I smell something burning." We both dismissed it because we could smell something, but didn't see anything. No smoke or flames anywhere. We assumed someone was burning wood/trash. You can do that in our small po-dunk town. lol!

We went inside and sat down to rest and watch some TV before I began making dinner. I kept telling Hubby, "It really smells like wood is burning. It's getting stronger."

Again, we dismissed it.

Then a knock came to the door. A neighbor boy asked me if I knew that the tree next to our house was on fire???? Excuse me?

I quickly ran outside and down the deck to the backside of the house. I turned the corner, saw a ton of smoke and some flames coming from an old dead tree next to our house. When I say "next to", I mean less than 8 feet.

(That tree was whole to the top before the fire began.)

I panicked. I come back around the house and yell to Hubby to call 911. I'm frantic because the wind was slightly blowing and everything was coming toward the house. I grab the girls, get them to the car on the other side and wait for help.

It seemed like forever for the fireman to get here. I was nervous and scared. I envisioned everything just turning to ash.

While we are waiting for the fireman, I quickly buckle the girls in their seat and run down to check on Hubby. Our dog Tron was outside his kennel so we had to move him and Greg was trying to put the fire out himself with a garden hose.

Greg got the fire under control and to a smolder when the first fire truck showed up.

Want to know what's absolutely crazy about this whole thing??

No One Knows How The Fire Started!

Seriously, we have no idea how a dead tree spontaneously caught fire. There were no sources of origin at all. We are very grateful to our little neighbor friend. See all of those trees and brush in every direction around the house?? Yeah, imagine it all catching?

Actually, let's not.
I know it was just a stupid dead tree that the previous owners failed to remove properly, but my photo doesn't do the situation justice. That tree is VERY close to my house.

Everyone is safe and sound and the fire is out thanks to my Hubby; the fireman in training. I can't imagine how bad it could have gotten. I want to STOP imagining how bad it could have gotten.

I have repeatedly made my very sick husband go outside and spray it down with the hose again just to be sure. The fireman didn't think it would start again, but said to keep a watchful eye. The girls were glad to have seen a few fireman (who wouldn't be lol!) and some fire and rescue vehicles. I felt silly with the camera out when things died down. I didn't want to step on toes if I captured one of the men and I really didn't want them to think I was creepy. I settled for the above view, out of the way, from where the girls and I were.

Now, please pass me a glass of wine!

Eggs Everywhere!

Busy as can be the past few days. Nothing too major, unless you count my new-to-me stove going out, the plumbing downstairs overflowing EVERYWHERE, and hubby and the girls becoming sick.

UGH!

See, my strain of bad luck comes in waves. Not little tidbits here and there.

The stove, well the top works but the darn oven isn't working. Wouldn't you know I figured it out AFTER I made an apple pie for Easter. No one has really looked at it so I am not sure if it can be fixed or if I am going to have to hunt down Craigslist again. I really love this stove, despite it's age, so I hope it can be fixed rather then tossed.

The plumbing, yep. This will be the second time that I'll despise that huge 100+ year old Oak out in my front yard. So far, everything is backing up in the basement. I'd move out if any of that crud came anywhere near the living part of our house. Time to go and clean out of the pipes again. Volunteers??

In the meantime, don't use the garbage disposal, the dishwasher, the shower, the potty and don't you dare wash a load of clothes! The spinning and draining of water is not a good thing.

And finally, Daddy has a sore throat and cold and the girls have be running fevers for 48+ hours now. Just fevers, loss of appetite, and lots of sleeping. No other symptoms have presented themselves...YET.

This is just life, nothing to fret about. While I am over here whining about it, check out the Princesses waiting for the Easter Bunny. I'll be uploading more Easter Day photos throughout the week. Nothing like dragging out the holiday. lol!

Oh, and the title of this post, well I'm already secretly throwing away those craplastic eggs the girls got in their baskets. Silly things are everywhere and not a single one is whole. loL!!

Kisses,Hugs & Luv, Happy Easter!

Easter Bunny

Yesterday we ventured out to take the girls to see the Easter Bunny. For the first time since I have been a mother, there was a line. A long line! We waited in line almost 2 hours to see the bunny.

It was all worth it! The girls did GREAT! Emily was not scared and she loved sitting on his lap. This shot was the best out of three. Not because someone wasn't happy but because one of the girls was always looking in the wrong direction. lol!!

Lots of Easter activities for us this weekend, I'll update when I can.

In the meantime, Have a wonderful Easter full of chocolate and very few Peeps!

Last year with the bunny!

Izzy 'N Emmy, PATS Easter Egg Hunt, April 08, 2009

On Wednesday, the girls had an Easter Egg Hunt at playgroup. It was quite the event. Each child brought so many eggs to contribute and then they were all placed in a basket and hidden outside. It was a lot of fun!

Izzy has had practice in the past for egg hunts, so we knew she would jump right in to go in search of those pretty colored pieces of plastic. Emmy on the other hand has never experienced an egg hunt outside of her infant car seat. Well folks, she had no problem. She knew exactly what to do and what the object of the game was. lol!

Emily, PATS Easter Egg Hunt, April 8th, 2009

If the rain will stop for a bit (highly unlikely) we will be having another egg hunt on Saturday and our own little one here at the house on Sunday. Happy Easter!

More photos from the hunt can be found over at FLICKR! And of course, Easter 2008!

Thursday Thirteen- Edition "N"

1. Noodles - Love just about any noodle there is. Especially plain with salt and butter.

2. Narnia - A wonderful series of books and so far great movies!

3. Nanny - Greg and I lost our Nanny a couple of years ago. She was a fabulous Grandmother from the first moment I met her. Now a new generation of Nanny has come to be and she is just as wonderful as her mother.

4. Nails - I've never been able to grown my nails long. I pick at them too much. I don't bite or chew though. I miss having acrylics done.

5. Naked - Both of the girls would rather be naked than wear any clothes at all; no matter the temps.

6. Nicotine - My bad habit.

7. Nebraska - Born in Nebraska many moons ago.

8. Naval - Mine's an "innie". As are the girls.

9. Navigate - I am very good with directions and finding my own way around new cities. Maps are easy for me to read as well.

10. Neurological - Too many headaches led me to many of these doctors. It's a good thing they figured it out eventually.

11. Nocturnal - I'm not a morning person! I'd much rather stay up late.

12. Noggin - A wonderful channel when used properly.

13. The Notebook - One of my most favorite movies ever!

Bare with me for the next few weeks as I participate in Thursday Thirteen, Alphabetically. I think it's going to be a lot harder than I thought. LOL!

Yoplait Kids Yogurt (Review & Giveaway)

As I have mentioned before, I am a big yogurt eater. It's good for you! When the girls were little(er) I tried giving them a chance to try yogurt. Neither one of them thought yogurt was appealing. *lol*

Izabel and Emily have grown to like it more these days, but I still have to be tricky about it. Talk about hiding vegetables in a child's dinner, how about hiding yogurt?!

Recently I was asked to try Yoplait Kids Drinkables. We've tried several Yoplait Kids yogurts before, even the Trix, but still the girls would only take one bite and be done. Mommy and Daddy always ended up eating them.
I went to our local Walmart who generally has them for about $2.39. I chose the Dora Strawberry flavor. I came home, put it in the fridge, and waited for a good time to let the girls try it. Yesterday morning came and I decided that I had an idea. The Yoplait Drinkables are already drinkable, why not mix it up a little and put it in the girls cups for breakfast??

Hmmm, add Yoplait Strawberry Drinkable to child's cup, mix in a little milk. Viola!!

Emmy downed her's in no time and Izzy didn't make a peep.

I'm so glad this worked for us because I find Yogurt to be an important part of a persons diet.

"Did you know research has shown that fewer than half of all kids ages two to 12 get the calcium they need each day? Calcium and Vitamin D are both essential nutrients for building strong bones. Though it can be challenging for growing kids to get Vitamin D, since it is found naturally in very few foods, Yoplait for Kids makes it a little easier to incorporate a delicious source of Vitamin D and Calcium in your child's diet.
"

Now, because my sponsors are so kind and awesome, I have 3 of these very cool and very fun Get Active Kid's Pack's to giveaway! Each prize pack includes the following: A coupon for a free pack of Yoplait Kids Yogurt, Travel Cooler, Jump Rope, Water Bottle, Beach Ball, Paddle Ball, Jai Ali and a Frisbee.

Disney On Ice- Mickey and Minnie's Magical Journey

Uncle Doc was generous and gave us tickets to go to Disney On Ice today. It was a terrible day to be out and about, but I thought it would be fun and I was sure Izzy would love it.
The Lion King

Sure enough, Izabel loved being so close to the stage and seeing all of her favorite Disney movie characters (minus the Princesses). Tinkerbell made an appearance during the Peter Pan part and she loved that!
The Little Mermaid

Emmy was interested the first few minutes and then poof, she wanted to stand in her chair and face the kids behind her and play. She's only 16 months though and I didn't expect her to get real into it.
Lilo and Stitch

I took a gazillion photos during the 2 hour show, and I think these were the best of the bunch. Seriously, every single shot is blurred beyond repair. *sigh* Still learning to use this spiffy Nikon of mine.
Peter Pan

The show was 2 hours and consisted of 4 movie shorts; The Lion King, The little Mermaid, Lilo and Stitch and Peter Pan. I think it was a nice event for kids and I hope that we can make the Princesses on Ice next year.

Thank you Uncle Doc!
Characters and actors from the entire show.
