Horsing Around Photo Contest Entry

Janice and Susan over at 5 Minutes For Mom are hosting a photo contest with the theme of "Horsing Around". The winner will win a $100.00 gift certificate to A Rocking Horse To Love. They have some of the most adorable kids furniture and play sets!

I think Izzy 'N Emmy have what it takes to win as they love their ponies to pieces! Both girls ride them everyday and have races with each other. It's so funny to see them rock back and forth as fast as they can.

So if you have a moment, go over and share your love for Izzy 'N Emmy's entry. The first part of the contest will be narrowed down to 20 finalists. You can help get us on that final list by leaving a comment on their post about how you just adore and love our entry. We are entry number 50. Finalists will be posted February 10th.

Once the 20 finalists are picked, a voting poll will go up. The most votes win! You can only vote once per IP address, so make your vote count. Voting ends February 27th at 3pm EASTERN.

Thank you so much!

PhotoStory Friday- Emily Is 14 Months

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Emily Rose, 14 Months

Emmy, you continue to amaze me each and every day. It amazes me at how far you have come in 14 months. You are full of words and love to babble all day long. Some of the words you can say are: ball, bye, hi, mommy, daddy, nanny, popah, sissy, kitty(didee), puppy, pony(bobby), no, yes, sit down, up please, what's that, uh oh, noodles(noonles), outside, cup, hot, baba, tv, sun, baby, all done, more, pee, potty and a few others that have escaped me. You also sign very well and continue to use them as often as you can.

You sleep like a champ, but you started out well too. Your bedtime is eight o'clock on the dot and all I have to do is lay you in your bed and you are out. You sleep a solid 12 hours or so and then you wake up happy as can be, ready for the day. Your nap is about 11am and lately you have been sleeping for about 3 hours. You only nap once a day, but I am okay with that.

Your eating habits are marvelous too! You do pick and choose once in awhile, but for the most part you will eat 5 times a day and everything on your plate. I am so proud of you but wish you would eat a few more veggies. You just started drinking whole milk full time a couple of weeks ago. You appear to have adjusted well, which is awesome!

Princess Emily, you now have 9 teeth, with a molar just arriving while we were in Florida. The only one that has seemed to bother you is that molar, but Tylenol seems to ease the pain a little.

Your temperament is something that varies depending on the surrounding people. Usually you are glued to me; your mommy. You burst into tears the moment I leave the room or out of your sight. Thus, we have become potty partners. LOL! Even when you are happy with the world, mommy is the one thing that makes your world even better. I hope this is just a phase though. As much as I love your attention and your snuggles, peeing without being watched is on my list.

You and Izzy play well together most of the time. Thankfully there has never been hostility from either of you. No hitting or anything like that. Sometimes you take Izzy's toys and that upsets her, but she is still learning to share as well. You love to bounce on the bed with her and chase each other throughout the house. And, you are very good at picking up things from her. Almost too good...in fact, there are some habits I must insist that you do not follow. LOL!

So my dearest sweet pea, congrats on your first 14 months. You are such a smart little girl and I love you to pieces. Remember that always...just in case mommy doesn't have photo proof. LOL!

And thanks, for keeping me on my toes. xxoo

Vacation Day Two: Tarpon Springs

Tarpon Springs Beach, Florida 01/21/2009

The second day we were in Florida, the girls and I took a drive to Tarpon Springs on the recommendation of my MIL. It was a fabulous drive, especially since the girls slept the entire way. Once we arrive in Tarpon Springs, we wound through a beautiful district of antique stores, nostalgic candy shops, statues and restaurants. There were Greek Gods and Goddesses poking up all over the place.

We continued down toward the coast where the marina's were plentiful and the lake houses beautiful. Even their docks were something to look at. Izabel loved seeing all the boats lined up in decks 3 and 4 high.

We finally made it to the coast and stopped at the Beach. I mean, that is where we headed in the first place. It was still very cold and windy so our time spent there was minimal. We were the only ones actually on the beach with the exception of the birds. The sand was soft and white and once again we started collecting shells.

Izabel Grace, Tarpon Springs Beach, Florida 01/21/2009

Izabel loved any form of beach we ventured to but Emily had a hard time with it all. She didn't mind the wind so much but the feel of the sand on her fingers was a bit too much for her. At this specific location, she fell and landed right on her hiney. When she attempted to get up, her hands dug into the sand and the tears started flowing. LOL!

Emily Rose, Tarpon Springs Beach, Florida 01/21/2009

Emily's love for the beach was later evident when she found pleasure in the seagulls. Every beach we went to, she found the birds and chased them. She loved it!

After we left Tarpon Springs Beach, we headed down to what would be the tourist district. Lots of pink and green buildings. LOL! There were shops everywhere. We started in the visitors center, hoping for a boat excursion, but no one was boating because it was so cold. We walked around the marina a little bit, went through some shops and ended up at Spongeorama.

Did you know that Tarpon Springs is very close to being the Sponge capital of the world? To keep you from the entire history of Tarpon Springs, I'll cut to the chase. Tarpon Springs used to be a huge Sponge harvesting area. It dropped off for quite awhile until 2007 when they recorded the biggest harvest in a very long time. So, yes, there were sponges everywhere. It's directly on the water so we saw boats coming in and hanging the sponges to dry. A very cool event to witness.

Spongeorama is of course a tacky tourist spot but I found it to be quite neat. They had a museum and the girls got to pick out a sponge to take home for their baths. We even bought some handmade goats milk soaps. They smell divine!

Tarpon Springs was very nice and quaint. Izabel really got a kick out of all the Greek people and their accents. And not once, or twice, but three times did people ask if my girls were twins. LOL! They are 20 months apart, but so many still assume they are twins.

Izzy 'N Emmy, Tarpon Springs Beach, Florida 01/21/2009

These are the last of the photos I have until this crisis can be resolved. In fact these may be the only photos I have from our trip, but at least I have them. There are a few more over on FLICKR! Enjoy!

Friends Playing Along:

You'll Never Believe What Happened

I am here to complain; to whine about the last few days.

The unthinkable has happened.

The unimaginable.

My precious iMac decided to go haywire.

I spent the afternoon at the only Apple Store around here with the Genius Bar. It seems that the iMac's filing system has had an error.

Behold, 12,500 photos and home movies are now....gone. No, I am not kidding.

*Note: Nothing we did caused this error.

Let me rephrase that for you. Emily's first year of life is gone. ALL of her firsts. Izzy's first year as a big sister and a year full of achievement for both.

The iMac itself can be repaired and luckily we are just 23 days away from our warranty expiring, but the photos. *sigh* The software can be reinstalled, but the photos.

I have been in touch with a Data Recovery Specialist who will attempt to recover my photos and anything else he can. His success rate is "2/3 of the time". *sigh* You know which third I fall into. There are fees to come up with, but I can tell you I will pay almost anything if he can find even (dare I say) half of those photos.

It really is my fault. I failed to buy a big enough external for backups. I had just finished backing everything up from 2007 before we left on vacation. I ran out of room and disk space for 2008.

I have tried to be calm.

I have held back the tears, for now.

Vacation Day One: Treaure Island

As soon as we arrived in chilly Florida, we headed straight for Treasure Island. We arrived much earlier than we could check into our hotel, so we decided to drive around.

In order to get to Treasure Island, we had to cross this bridge that went through the middle of the Bay. It was amazing! It was like you were driving on the water. The bridge was about 15 miles long and nothing but water surrounded you on both sides. The day was chilly and very windy so the waves were even splashing up onto the highway. I tried to get some shots from the car but I had no luck. It's prohibited to pull over on the bridge unless it's an emergency.

So we crossed the bridge and ended up in St. Petersburg. It was a beautiful place to be, even if it was cold. We wound through the newer districts, stopping to glance at all the different stores and strange signs. Like the one below. LOL! There were several of the shops right near the beaches. LOL!

We finally made it to Treasure Island Beach and Izabel just about jumped out of the car still buckled in her car seat. She was so excited to see the sand, the water and of course, the sea shells.

Treasure Island Beach, Florida 01/20/2009

Izabel Grace, Treasure Island, Florida 01/20/2009

I'll most likely say this over and over again, but it was freezing. The winds were forceful and the water ice cold. That didn't stop Izabel. She sifted through shells oblivious to the wind and the snot running from her nose. Emily on the other hand wanted to go straight back to the car and wait. She and I did for awhile, but we re-bundled as best as we could and went out once more for a good run on the beach.

Emily Rose, Treasure Island Beach, Florida 01/20/2009

We loved driving around this little beach area. So many cute houses. I loved seeing the cabins on the beach built on stilts to keep them up from the water. There were lots of odd colors for homes; purple, blues, pinks and turquoise were very popular. Once "cabin" was even on the market. It sat right on the beach, had a great parking area and was probably the size of our bathroom. It was listed at $899,000. Not bad huh? Ha!

Treasure Island was a great way to start our vacation. Izzy loves the whole pirates and digging for treasure things so this was perfect for her. She saw everything she wanted to and more. I'd recommend this little place for a visit if you are in the area. They have a few other beaches that are beautiful as well, including the amazing Sunset Beach.

More photos from our trip to Treasure Island can be found over here at FLICKR! Enjoy!

Back To Life...Back To Reality

We arrived back home this weekend from our mini vacation to Florida. I say mini only because Daddy was working most of the time we were there. The girls and I did our own thing while he was working.

I have lots of great stories, memories and photos to share. But all in good time. This is my first time at the computer in a very long time. I need to catch up and organize what I have.

Today, In the spirit of it being Monday, I'm going to list all the negative things about our trip. LOL! Yeah, can't you tell I miss the beach already?

*We were not able to make it to Disney. Our connection was our cousin and her offer fell through the night before we left. Izzy was a little disappointed and it took her awhile to realize we weren't kidding. Up until the third day or so she still thought we were going.

*Daddy was sick the last few days we were there. Daddy does not get sick often, but when he does it makes me worry. We hung close to the hotel but he was finally able to get out and finish up his work and go out and play with us in the sand.

*It was terribly cold! With the exception of the last day we were in Florida, it was cold. So cold that we searched high and low for winter jackets, pants and long sleeves. It didn't help that we were so attracted to the water. It was much colder on the coast.

*The flight home was one of those times as a mother were I didn't want everyone to know Izabel and Emily were my children. LOL! The first half of the flight consisted of the girls crying and being antsy. Nothing was entertaining enough to keep them still and quiet. They did fall asleep for the last half of the flight though, which was good.

Now that all that negativity has been expelled, enjoy some photos. These photos were taken at Clearwater Beach and Pier 60, One of the most beautiful beaches we've ever been to.

Pier 60 At Clearwater Beach, Florida-01/22/09

Clearwater Beach, Florida-01/22/09

I'll update as often as I can in the coming days. I am trying to get around to everyone as well, but it's gong to take me awhile to catch up. Please be patient and know that I missed each and every one of you!

I Bid You Farewell

Then time has finally come.
I can smell the sandy beaches and the salty sea.
I can feel myself drifting into a nap in a room that I didn't have to clean.
The wet bar is stocked.
The pool is heated.
Princesses and Dumbo await us.
The temperatures are 70 degrees warmer there.

We will be leaving for our mini vacation soon and I have to realize that I haven't the time to blog. Packing must be done. I need to tidy the house a bit. I do have a couple of posts scheduled to entertain you, but other than that, I will be Mac-less.

Miss me while I am gone and prepare yourselves for a SD card full of photos when we return.

Thursday Thirteen- Edition "B"

1. Bobcat- I used to have an F2 generation Bobcat for a pet. Her name was Luna and she was all black. Her spots hadn't come in yet; they usually don't until they are older. She was such a sweet cat however she was lost in a thunderstorm shortly after we moved here. I miss her.

11. Broke- We never seem to have enough money.

12. Borg- Resistance is Futile. I've been watching TNG for a few months now after the girls are in bed. I am up to Season 5.

Bare with me for the next 26 weeks as I participate in Thursday Thirteen, Alphabetically. I think it's going to be a lot harder than I thought. LOL!

Delurking Day 2009

I don't really know that anyone secretly visits my blog, but if you do, I'd love to know you are there. Surely there is some one out there that has visited my blog a few times and just never left a comment.

Please, for me, let me know you are there. I wonder if I have a visitor from each of the 50 states???

Ruby Tuesday- Hot Rod

Ruby Tuesday is hosted over at Work Of The Poet

I've been a little preoccupied the last few days so I pulled this photo from the archives. Izzy and a Red and white Stingray. We took the girls to the town festival over the summer; Waterfest 2008.

I was so happy to have Izabel pose next to the classic cars for photos. I have several photos of myself that my father took when I was little. I too was posed next to some of the best looking cars in the day. This photo also shows just how much our little Princess has grown over the last few months.

Because They're Beautiful

Nearly 100 additional photos from the last week can be found over in FLICKR!

PhotStory Friday- A Tale of Two Strangers and A Stove

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

I know, it's a photo of a stove, but the story of who I received the stove from is where it gets good.

Some of you will remember my week of disaster before Christmas. If you don't, you can go read about it here. It was a week that I should hope not to endure again for a very long time.

After Christmas was over, I started looking through Freecycle and Craigslist for any stoves that might be of use to us. After all, paying more than 100 dollars for a stove was not in our budget. I came upon an ad on Craigslist that had an electric stove for 25 dollars. Wow, what could be wrong with it?

Most stoves had ads asking for alot more and sometimes they couldn't even guarentee that the stove worked.

So I contacted this person about the stove and asked to come and look. I knew I was probably going to buy it. Even though it's quite old, anything would work for us as long as the stove did.

We drove just over an hour, through winding roads and towering hills. We arrived at a beautiful old (1893) home set off the road out in the country. I could see a nice Christmas Tree standing in the window. We pulled up and proceeded to get out of our truck. There were a few cats and a dog. This is exactly how I have envisioned my own little piece of the world, right down to the mature trees on the property.

Hubby and I met the individuals selling the stove. They helped load the antique beauty and then asked us in to their home. We walked into their screen porch and then the kitchen. It was in the kitchen that I knew I was in love with their house. I didn't need to see anything else.

There was one wall in particular that had shelving from floor to ceiling. On the shelves were hundreds of canned goods that this couple had made from the goods in their garden, fruit bearing trees and bushes. It was awesome!

I stood in their kitchen for a few minutes, letting Hubby pay them and thank them. I was just in awe about everything I was seeing. The dog was standing at our feet, licking Greg's hands and thankful for the pets she was getting in return. The wife asked if we'd like to have some jam she had made and canned.

Greg and I both began to make our way back out. We both said thank you and went to shake each the husband and wife's hand. To my surprise, the wife laughed, held out her arms, and said "Oh, give me a hug."

I did not know this woman any more than I do my mailman. Yet she opened her arms and hugged a complete stranger. She acted as if I were someone special.

I was not nervous, nor offended. Hubby and I both got in the truck and I had goosebumps; a warm cozy feeling all over. I was giddy with delight.

This little trip we took to get a stove was proof that nice people still exists. We were with this couple a mere 20 minutes total. The couple was kind to us without hesitation and that is something I'll remember for the rest of my life.

BTW, they even emailed us later that week to ask if everything was working correctly with the stove. Of course it was. The stove maybe older, but it's pristine and I love it! Within the email, they invited us to stop over whenever we were in the area.

Thursday Thirteen- Edition "A"

1. Alisha- Mother to Izabel and Emily, Wife to Gregory.

2. Albuquerque, New Mexico- One of my favorite places to visit. I love driving over the mountains into the city at night, gazing at the lights at the base.

3. Adventure- I am always up for an adventure with the girls. The older they get, the more they participate.

4. Apples- Izabel loves apples. It is most likely the only thing we can get her to eat without a fight.

5. Antique Shops- We have a lot of antique places in our home town and surrounding areas. It's amazing to see what people consider an "antique". LOL!

6. Aliens- Are we really the only beings in the universe?

7. Attic- I have been weeding through the junk in our attic for a couple of weeks. Retrieving Christmas items was the perfect opportunity to gather a few things for the trash man. It looks so much better and is nearly empty!

8. Attendance- I believe I spend more hours flipping through blogs than I ever spent in school.

9. All Top- How in the heck can I get on that list?! I want to be cool!

10. Apeture- A program I barley know but I still want it so I can learn more.

11. Adobe- Another group of programs I am slowly taking a liking to.

12. Accidents- I was once bitten by a Doberman Pincher named Precious while tightly hugging her goodbye. She bit me on the face not half an inch from my eye. I needed stitches and I still have a small scar. I never blamed the dog and never had any fears afterward.

13. Alaska- I have always wanted to visit Alaska. Not really for the cold and snow but for the streams and forests. I hear it's rather majestic.

Bare with me for the next 26 weeks as I participate in Thursday Thirteen, Alphabetically. I think it's going to be a lot harder than I thought. LOL!
